Centennial Stories
"Enjoyed Her Many Years at Wesley House" This note is presented in memory of my mother, Nell M. Owen. Mom served as receptionist at Wesley House for 21 years under the supervision of Ms. Helen Mandlebaum, deaconess. Mom's desk was in the lobby, close to the front door. She greeted people as they came in, answered the phones, and sold candy. She also worked some evenings. Local basketball teams would use the Wesley House gymnasium for practice. They could rent it for $2.00 per team. We lived at 804 E. Washington St. [just across from Wesley House]. Mother enjoyed her many years at Wesley House and would have quite a variety of stories to tell if she were alive. She died in 1968 at the age of 79. Luna Owen Hoskinson |
